BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The College of Coastal Georgia men's tennis team turned in a dominant performance on Wednesday, defeating SCAD Savannah 4-1 at home behind a commanding doubles showing and strong contributions across the singles lineup.
The Mariners set the tone immediately in doubles, winning two of three matches convincingly to claim the doubles point. Salvador Pons Medina and Artur Pons Medina wasted no time at first doubles, shutting out Adam Jaupert and Yu Dian Dong 6-0, while Geronimo Gonzalez Dolci and Caspar Grylls were equally impressive at second doubles, handling Diego Fernandez and Ahmed Abdelaziz 6-1. SCAD Savannah salvaged the third doubles position with a 4-3 win, but the damage was already done and CCGA carried clear momentum into singles play.
The Mariners kept that energy going in the singles portion, winning three of six matches to secure the overall victory. Salvador Pons Medina delivered the grittiest performance of the day at third singles, dropping the first set 4-6 before roaring back to take the second 6-0 and close out the match with a 6-4 third set win over Fernandez. Gonzalez Dolci was the most dominant individual on the court, cruising past Henri Wieber 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles without ever looking threatened. Leonard Daguinot added another point for CCGA at fifth singles, edging out a tight 6-3, 7-6 victory over Yu Dian Dong in a match that required him to hold his nerve down the stretch.
SCAD Savannah's lone singles victory came from Gonzalo Lopez at sixth singles, who defeated Max Kirmayr in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. The first and second singles matches were both decided in three sets as well, with Artur Pons Medina and Gonzalo Tano each falling narrowly after competitive three-set battles, though neither result was needed to change the outcome by that point.
The 4-1 victory is a strong showing for the Mariner men's tennis program and demonstrates clear depth across both doubles and singles as they continue building toward conference competition.
