Coastal Georgia Women's Tennis Rallies Past Georgia Gwinnett 5-2

Coastal Georgia women's tennis overcame an early deficit to defeat 16th-ranked Georgia Gwinnett 5-2 on Thursday afternoon, extending their winning streak to three consecutive matches. The receiving votes Mariners (4-3) dropped the doubles point but stormed back to win four of five completed singles matches to secure the victory over their ranked opponent.

Georgia Gwinnett (3-6) claimed the doubles point with victories at the top two positions. Nicoleta Anestiadi and MaryLove Edwards defeated Gabriella Rodrigues and Karlie Scott Kersey 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Mireia Simon Sanchez and Minami Tan topped Luna Feillon and Gabriela Miteva 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles match between Freya Zayyan/Manon Baudet and Toluwani Akosile was not completed.

Trailing 1-0 after doubles, the Mariners rallied in singles competition. Gabriela Miteva evened the match at No. 2 singles, defeating Minami Tan 7-5, 6-3 in a hard-fought battle. Luna Feillon gave Coastal Georgia the lead with a straight-sets victory at No. 3 singles, dispatching Mireia Simon Sanchez 6-3, 6-4.

Gabriella Rodrigues delivered the clinching point with a thrilling three-set comeback at No. 4 singles. After dropping the first set 5-7 to Nicoleta Anestiadi, Rodrigues dominated the second set 6-3 before closing out the decisive third set 6-2 to put the Mariners ahead 4-1.

Freya Zayyan capped the victory with a dominant performance at No. 5 singles, blanking Toluwani Akosile 6-0, 6-0 in a double bagel to complete the 5-2 team win.

Georgia Gwinnett's lone singles point came at No. 1, where MaryLove Edwards defeated Karlie Scott Kersey 6-2, 6-2. The No. 6 singles match was not completed.

The victory marks Coastal Georgia's third consecutive win and demonstrates the team's resilience in bouncing back from the doubles deficit. The Mariners improved to 4-3 on the season with another quality win over a ranked opponent.
