MOBILE, Ala. — The Coastal Georgia men's tennis team battled hard Tuesday at the Mobile Tennis Center, but ultimately fell to Dillard (LA), 4-3, in a closely contested match that went down to the wire.
The Mariners entered the day at 10-7 on the season against Dillard's 11-11 record.
Doubles Play Sets the Stage
Coastal Georgia came out strong in doubles, taking two of three courts to claim the doubles point. Artur Pons Medina and Salvador Pons Medina opened things with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Leonard Daguinot and Geronimo Gonzalez Dolci sealed the point with a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles. Max Kirmayr and Enzo Barauna dropped the No. 2 court 5-3.
Singles Battle Goes Dillard's Way
Despite the early lead, Dillard rallied in singles play to claim four of six courts and take the match.
Salvador Pons Medina and Geronimo Gonzalez Dolci provided wins for the Mariners. Pons Medina battled back at No. 3 singles, dropping the second set before pulling away in a decisive third, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Gonzalez Dolci was dominant at No. 4, dispatching his opponent 6-2, 6-1.
Artur Pons Medina had a tough three-setter at No. 1 singles, pushing Dillard's Siddharth Arya to a third set before falling 4-6, 6-4, 3-6. Leonard Daguinot at No. 5 also went the distance, losing a hard-fought match 4-6, 7-5, 4-6. Max Kirmayr dropped a competitive No. 6 contest 6-3, 3-6, 4-6.
Gonzalo Tano fell at No. 2 singles 3-6, 1-6.
The Mariners close their season at 10-8 overall.
