BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia volleyball team was close to repeating what happened last year against Webber International (9-7, 3-3) when they pulled off the reverse sweep but the Warriors locked in late and escaped with a 3-2 win.

The Mariners (6-8, 2-4) played a well rounded game but just were not able to capitalize on crucial moments in the fifth set.

The Warriors jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after a dominate second-set win that saw them up 24-14 before five straight Mariners points made it interesting.

In set three, Coastal took a stand and after being down 21-17 came back to score the final eight points of the set led by Madison Heskett who had three kills and was in on two blocks to give the Mariners a 25-21 win and push the match to a fourth set.

Both teams traded early runs in the fourth set as Coastal jumped out to a 5-1 lead before Webber answered back to take a 7-5 lead. From there it was back-and-forth with the Mariners clutching up at the end to take the final three points and win 26-24.

The final set followed the trend of the previous four, back-and-forth with a few runs, but it wasn't until the set was tied at 11-11 that the Warriors locked and got four straight kills from Bailey Sikkema and Nadia Reid to close out the match and avoid the reverse sweep.

BY THE NUMBERS-

Five different Mariners recorded 10 or more digs. Skylar Gribben and Rebecca Brown both had 17 while Kira Matthias added 12 and Jenna Rogers and Sara Hansen each posted 11.
Hansen and Brown both recorded double-doubles as Hansen led the team with 22 assists with Brown right behind her at 21.
Chantiya Johnson and Raevyn Russell led the Mariners with five blocks as Cassidy Casey, Madison Heskett and Sydney Martin all followed closely behind with four.
Russell (13), Casey (11), Martin (10) and Paula Perez Rosales (9) combined for 43 of the teams 55 kills. Heskett added eight kills of her own to finish the match with 10.0 points.

"Defensively, it was a really good day. 17 digs from Rebecca (Brown) and Skylar (Gribben), 11 from Sara (Hansen), 11 from Jenna (Rogers) and 12 from Kira (Matthias). If that's not a testament to the work we put in this week than I don't know what it is. Our goal today was to be a defensive team and we did that."
