No. 21 Mariners Complete Sweep of Ave Maria with 7-0 Victory

Box Score AVE MARIA, Fla.- The No. 21 Coastal Georgia softball team (33-10, 17-3) completed its sweep against Ave Maria (18-24, 5-16) on Saturday with a 7-0 win fueled by a three-run sixth inning and a four-run seventh inning.

Hayley Dickerson started the game, going three innings and allowing just three hits while striking out two batters and Bryce Peacock picked up her 11th win of the season after reliving Dickerson in the fourth inning and allowed just one hit while striking out five through the last four innings.

B. Peacock also got things going on offense as she broke the 0-0 tie with a solo homer to dead center to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning.

The Mariners would only need one run, but two more in the sixth after Melani Jones and McCall Maret singled and eventually came around to score off a Malarie Peacock base-hit and a Zoe Johnston-Hadaway single.

Johnston-Hadaway didn't stop there as she put the nail further in the coffin late in the seventh inning with a three-run triple to give the Mariners a 7-0 lead and allow B. Peacock to close out the game with ease.

MacKenzie Kagee knocked in the fifth run for the Mariners on a double that brought pinch runner Alyssa Haggerty around to score in the top of the seventh.

Coastal Georgia controls its own destiny heading into the final week of play as they sit at the top spot in the Sun Conference just one game ahead of Southeastern.

If the Mariners can sweep Keiser they will finish as the conference regular season champions for the second time in program history.

UP NEXT: The Mariners will host Keiser University in a doubleheader on Friday, April 28 starting at 1 p.m. followed by a single game on Saturday, April 29 at 12 p.m. which also be senior day for the six Mariners set to graduate at the end of the year.
