No. 18 Mariners Win on Opening Day of Sun Conference Tournament

CLEARWATER, Fla.- The No. 18 Coastal Georgia softball team (38-10, 21-3) defeated Warner University (22-24, 11-13) 1-0 on the opening day of the 2023 Sun Conference Softball Tournament on Thursday evening.

Hayley Dickerson picked up her 20th win of the season, setting a school record for wins in a single season.

Melani Jones recorded a single in the bottom of the sixth which sparked a crazy sequence highlighted by MacKenzie Kagee forcefully taking second which allowed Rori Rhodes to score the eventual winning run as the ball was rolling to the outfield on the attempt to get Kagee out at second.

No one recorded an RBI in this pitcher's duel, and neither pitcher threw over 75 pitches.

In the bottom of the fourth the Mariners had a golden opportunity to score the first run of the game after Bryce Peacock ripped a lead-off triple to right field.
However, Warner's pitcher Karina Lopez buckled down and got the next three Mariner batters to pop-up in the infield.

UP NEXT: The Mariners will face the winner of Southeastern v. St. Thomas at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex.
