Coastal Georgia Crowned 2023 Sun Conference Softball Tournament Champions After Thrilling Final

CLEARWATER, Fla.- The No. 18 Coastal Georgia softball team was crowned the 2023 Sun Conference Softball Tournament Champions after a 4-2 win over No. 20 Southeastern in the 11th inning capping off a perfect 3-0 run in the tournament.

The Mariners started the game with Sun Conference Player of the Year Bryce Peacock in the circle, but after three innings of work she had to move to right field after she was hit by a pitch in the third inning.

Hayley Dickerson was asked to come on after already pitching in games one and two and delivered a gritty eight inning shutout to pick up her 22nd win of the season and third this postseason.

The Fire got on the board first with a run in the first inning, but Coastal Georgia was able to answer back as Kayla Rowell hit a solo shot to left center field to tie the game in third inning.

Southeastern got its second, and final run, of the game in the bottom of the fourth and had all the momentum heading into the sixth inning because of Claire Sekinger's dominant performance in the circle. She allowed just one hit before the sixth inning before walking Sarah Thinger who came around to score after B. Peacock roped a triple down the right field line.

From there it was four innings of great defense and pitching before the Mariners loaded the bases in the top of the 11th when McCall Maret drove in the winning run with a towering shot to centerfield that was just a few feet short of going over the fence. Aniston Johnson added an insurance run with a sac-fly to score Alyssa Haggerty.

Dickerson shutdown the Fire in the bottom of the 11th going three up three down to prompt a mosh pit in the circle as they celebrated their second Sun Conference Tournament Championship.
