BRUNSWICK, Ga. - The College of Coastal Georgia men's golf team shot a third round 295 at Sanctuary Cove Golf Course to finish second in their home fall invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman Jake Ackerman shot the low round of the day for the Mariners, shooting an even par 72 to finish 37th in his first career start as a Mariner. Brad Hammock and Antonio Juarbe both shot two over 74's to end their tournaments, with Juarbe picking up his third straight third place finish dating back to last season. Hammock on the other hand finished just outside the top 30 in 32nd place. Finley Burke, who was in second place coming into the third round, shot four over in round three to finish in a tie for third place. Bo Shuler had his best round of the tournament, bouncing back to shoot three over in the final round, locking up a 53rd place finish.
Individually, Griffin Blount once again played incredible golf, shooting even par and finishing inside the top 10 in eighth place in his first career collegiate tournament. Another freshman Braylon Royal finished five over in round three, finishing in 57th position on the leaderboard.
The defending national champions Dalton State, who shot three strokes worse than the Mariners in round three, finished in first place at one under for the tournament, 19 strokes ahead of CCGA in second. Tennessee Wesleyan, William Carey, and ABAC rounded out the top five. Jack Whaley of Dalton State finished as the individual winner, shooting 11 under for the tournament.
The men return to action on September 23rd when they travel to Tarpon Springs, Fla. to partake in the Invite at Innisbrook.
