BRUNSWICK, Ga. - It was a long battle over the final 18 holes, but the College of Coastal Georgia men's golf team could not hang on, falling to the Keiser Seahawks to finish second in their home winter invitational on Tuesday.
In what turned out to be a two horse race, the Mariners and Seahawks battled for 18 holes, with Keiser shooting 16 strokes better than CCGA on the final day leading to their win.
After shooting five under in round one, Antonio Juarbe finished the last two rounds even par to finish in a tie for third place. Right behind him, Jake Ackerman shot a one over 73 in the final round to finish in a four way tie for seventh place. Finley Burke and Bo Shuler both shot three over in the final round with Burke finishing 29th while Shuler finished 44th. Lee Smith brought up the rear shooting four over to finish in 14th place.
As individuals, Brad Hammock had a good last round shooting one over for a 73 and a 35th place finish. Griffin Blount finished one stroke worse with a two over 74 and also finished 35th on the afternoon. Braylon Royal shot a four over 76 in round three to finish 41st.
With Keiser taking home the winners trophy and CCGA grabbing second, Webber International, Reinhardt, and Southeastern rounded out the top five.
The Mariners return to action next Monday and Tuesday as they travel to Valdosta for the Kinderlou Forest Spring Invitational hosted by Dalton State.
