VALDOSTA, Ga. - It was a fifth place finish for the College of Coastal Georgia men's golf team as they finished the Kinderlou Forest Spring Invite with a third round 299 for their second tournament of the spring.
As they finished the second round this morning, the Mariners shot their best round of the tournament at 289 with Brad Hammock shooting a team low 69 to finish four under in round two. Both Lee Smith and Antonio Juarbe finished one over par at 73, with Finley Burke one shot behind at 74. Jake Ackerman, who struggled both days, ended round two with a 79, and Braylon Royal matched the 79 as well.
In round three the Mariners struggled, shooting 299 and dropping two spots from day one to two. Smith shot one over for a 71 and a top 10 finish in just his second tournament of the season, while Burke had the next lowest score at 74 for a 24th place finish. Juarbe and Hammock both finished in 11th place as Juarbe shot a 76 while Hammock followed with a 78. It was a 39th place finish for Ackerman as she shot an 81, and Royal shot an 80 in round three for a 38th place finish.
Point took home the victory shooting three over as they defeated second place Reinhardt by 10 strokes. Dalton State, Cumberland, and CCGA rounded out the top five.
The men will take a lengthy break from competition, not returning until March 24-25 as they travel to Bullhead City, Arizona to participate in The Battle.
