The College of Coastal Georgia women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Southeastern University on Thursday morning at the Marta B. Torrey Tennis Complex in Brunswick, falling in the semifinal round of the Sun Conference Championship.
Doubles
Southeastern took control early, claiming the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and No. 2. Alessia Ciampi and Martina Picardi handled Gabriella Rodrigues and Karlie Scott Kersey 6-4 at No. 1, while Isabella Bolivar Garces and Irene Parigi were dominant in a 6-2 win over Luna Feillon and Gabriela Miteva at No. 2. The No. 3 match provided a bright spot for the Mariners, as Freya Zayyan and Manon Baudet pushed their opponents to a 5-3 advantage before the doubles point had already been decided.
Singles
Despite falling in the team competition, the Mariners showed plenty of fight in singles play. Karlie Scott Kersey turned in arguably the best individual performance of the match, defeating Isabella Bolivar Garces 6-3, 6-5 at No. 1 in an impressive straight-set victory. Gabriela Miteva made things interesting at No. 2 as well, splitting sets with Martina Picardi before the match ultimately went to the Fire.
Southeastern clinched the team point with wins at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles, as Alessia Ciampi was dominant over Luna Feillon at No. 3 and Leonie Schondelmaier handled Gabriella Rodrigues at No. 4. Irene Parigi added another point at No. 5, while Freya Zayyan kept things competitive at No. 6 before falling to Aurora Compagnucci.
