Mills Deals Another Complete Game as Mariners Finish Sweep of St. Thomas

Box Score

For the second time in as many days, Coastal Georgia found itself locked in a tight battle with St. Thomas before pulling through with a clutch late-inning performance. Rylee Mills was masterful in the circle and Rily Andrews delivered the decisive blow as the Mariners won 2-1 Friday afternoon to take the three-game series and improve to 32-5 on the season.

It was a pitcher's duel from the opening pitch, with both Mills and St. Thomas starter Christina Ortiz keeping offenses quiet through the first three innings. The Bobcats broke through in the fourth when a stolen base by pinch runner Ashley Ramon set up an RBI single by Kiara Selby to give St. Thomas a 1-0 lead that held into the sixth.

Coastal Georgia answered in the top of the sixth with the kind of timely hitting that has defined this team all season. Kaitlyn Carolino singled and Emma Jones followed with a single of her own to put two runners on. After Jones swiped second, Andrews delivered a two-run single through the left side to score both runners and put the Mariners ahead 2-1. It was Andrews' second consecutive game with a big hit in a crucial moment, continuing what has been a strong stretch for the right fielder.

Mills was exceptional once again, going all seven innings and allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out one on a crisp 76 pitches. She did not allow a run after the fourth inning and worked efficiently through St. Thomas' lineup all afternoon, earning the win and continuing to build what is becoming one of the most impressive individual pitching seasons in program history.

Beyond Andrews, Emerson Askew had a quietly productive afternoon going 2-for-3, and McKenzie Collins added two hits out of the first base spot. Carolino reached base twice and scored a run, and Jones chipped in a hit, a steal, and a run scored to help complete the series victory.

With the series win secured, Coastal Georgia heads back to Brunswick with momentum firmly on its side. The Mariners will look to keep rolling as conference play continues.
