Jeff Huebner joined the College of Coastal Georgia athletics staff in 2011 to start the first women's volleyball program at the college.
In their first season under Huebner, the Mariners finished 15-17 against a tough schedule that included several top-level NAIA programs and also strong NCAA Division II teams.
Before coming to Coastal Georgia, Huebner was a successful high school and club volleyball coach in his home state of Illinois.
In 2006, he was hired to coach girls volleyball at Tri-Valley High in Downs, Ill., becoming the youngest coach in state history. Inheriting a team that finished just 4-20 the previous season, Huebner steered his first team to a 19-12 record. Over the next four seasons, Tri-Valley posted 20-win seasons each year, winning Regionals three times, Sectionals two times and finishing in the top-10 in the state twice. In five seasons at Tri-Valley, Huebner had a 99-33 record.
Huebner actually began his coaching career in 2005 at the Illini Elite Volleyball Club in Bloomington, Ill., where his teams enjoyed much success.
In 2005, he guided the Illini Elite 18U team to a third –place finish at nationals. In 2006, Huebner coached the 16U team that finished second at USA Volleyball Junior Olympics and in doing so became the youngest coach to take a team to the national championship match. Also that year, Huebner's 16U team finished third at the AAU national championships.
In 2007, he again coached the 18U team and led it to a regional championship for the Great Lakes region and a 17th-place finish at nationals. In 2008, he led the team to a fifth-place finish at both the AAU and USAV national championships while producing two All-American players.
In 2009, the 18U team again finished fifth at AAU nationals under Huebner, and in 2010, he steered the team to fourth place at the Junior Volleyball Association world championships and a 10th-place finish at AAU nationals.
As a player, Huebner played club volleyball for two years at TNT Volleyball club in Buffalo Grove, Ill. In high school, he played volleyball his senior year at Stephenson High in Lincolnshire, Ill., where he was all-conference, all-area and also team captain.
After graduating from high school in 2003, Huebner enrolled at Illinois State University, where he graduated in 2009 with a B.S. degree in middle education with specialties in science and social studies.
While at Illinois State, Huebner was a member of the men's volleyball club and also served as president of the club. He was a four-time all-conference selection in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association and a two-time All-American. In 2007, Huebner helped his team to a third-place finish in the national tournament.
While still in Illinois, Huebner co-started the United Performance Volleyball Club based out of Clinton, S.C., which services junior volleyball in South Carolina and also hosts summer camps for junior players.
In 2011, he began the Southeast Volleyball Academy here in Brunswick which services junior volleyball in Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida.
Soon after completing his first season with Coastal Georgia volleyball, Huebner accepted the role of compliance director for the athletic program.
Huebner married his wife Erin in Aug. 2010. She works with the local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
