The College of Coastal Georgia men's basketball team lost 64-53 Saturday night to Brewton Parker on the second and final day of the Brewton Parker Tournament in Mount Vernon. The Mariners opened the tournament Friday with a four-point win over William Carey for their first victory of the season. Coastal Georgia lost its opener earlier this week at Voorhees College.
On Saturday, the Mariners committed 32 turnovers including 20 in the opening half. Coastal Georgia got down by as much as 28 points after halftime and could not get any closer than 11 points the rest of the game. Coastal Georgia coach Gerald Cox said the Mariners simply did not come ready to play.
"That's the bottom line. We didn't have any life," he said. "It's hard to explain. We didn't warm up with any enthusiasm and we went on the floor and played exactly like that, with no life, no enthusiasm, nothing. We didn't put any pressure on people and we let them dictate what we did."
Marcus Morrison led the Mariners with 13 points and 12 rebounds in defeat. Antwoin Conerly added 11 points for Coastal Georgia.
The Mariners will be back in action Tuesday when they play at Shorter College in Rome.
