Mariners lose big at Augusta State

Augusta, Ga. - The College of Coastal Georgia men's basketball team lost 96-57 Saturday afternoon to Augusta State.

The Jaguars improved to 2-0 with the win while the Mariners fell to 1-6 with the loss. Augusta State is an NCAA Division II program. The Mariners were coming off a thrilling 67-65 victory at home on Tuesday night against Coker College, which is also an NCAA D-II team.

The Jaguars, though, were simply too much for a young Mariners team. Augusta State built a 48-19 lead by intermission and outscored Coastal Georgia 48-38 over the final 20 minutes for the 39-point final margin.

Kostas Ezomo was the only player for Coastal Georgia to score in double figures. He finished with 10 points and also led the Mariners with eight rebounds. Reggie Burke, who hit the game-winning shot just before the final horn in Tuesday's victory, finished with nine points in the loss as did Dustin Henry. P.J. Reason contributed eight points for the Mariners.

The Jaguars had three players score in doubles. They were led by Ryan Weems who poured in 20 points. Weems was 4-for-5 from the three-point line.

Coastal Georgia will return home for weekend games against Auburn-Montgomery on Friday and Faulkner on Saturday. Both games will be the first home games in the Southern States Athletic Conference for the Mariners who lost their first two league games on the road two weekends ago.
