Mariners lose league game at Mobile

Mobile, Ala. – The College of Coastal Georgia men's basketball team is still looking for its first victory in the Southern States Athletic Conference after suffering a 74-65 loss on Friday night at University of Mobile.

The Mariners (2-13 overall, 0-5 league) will try for that initial conference win again tomorrow when they remain in Mobile for a league matchup with Spring Hill.

Friday's game against the Rams was the first SSAC game for the Mariners since their home loss to Faulkner on Dec. 1. It was also the third league game on the road out of the opening five SSAC games for Coastal Georgia in its first season in the conference.

Mobile (8-5, 2-3) won for the seventh time in eight home games this season with the victory over the Mariners.

The Mariners scored the first points of the night, but would never lead again after the Rams followed with a three-pointer to take the lead for good less than two minutes into the game.

The Rams opened up a 19-point advantage in the opening half before going to the locker room with a 42-28 lead at intermission.

Coastal Georgia trimmed its deficit to 46-38 with a surge in the first 4:05 of the second half, but Mobile quickly went up by twin figures again and would lead by double figures the rest of the game.

P.J. Reason scored 18 points to lead the Mariner in defeat. Also scoring in doubles were Kentorey Johnson (13), Reggie Burke (12) and Jevan Billinger (11.)

Burke led the Mariners with eight rebounds from his guard spot.

For Mobile, Kwame Beard paced the victory with a game-high 20 points. He also led all players with 10 rebounds for the Rams.
