Warren, Sanders Too Much for Mariners in Sunday Matchup

BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia men's basketball team (2-13, 0-7) dropped a non-conference matchup against Blue Mountain College (10-5, 4-4) by a score of 85-70 on Sunday afternoon.

The Mariners were led by Lorenzo Ferrell who had recorded 14 points and seven rebounds in his third game of the season. Ferrell knocked down four three-pointers and did so in just 19 minutes of game time.

Torey James and Rodney Wiley Jr. combined for 23 points including a buzzer-beating three by Wiley Jr. before going into halftime.

Anthony Duncan dropped in 12 points of his own to round out the major scorers for Coastal Georgia.

For the Toppers, five players reached double-digits scoring led by JonDarius Warren who scored 16 points. Ryan Sanders was right behind him with 15 points and added a team-high six rebounds.

Blue Mountain shot an impressive 58.8 percent from beyond the arc making 10 threes on 17 attempts.

How It Happened:

1st Half:

The Mariners kept it close for the first 15 minutes of the game but after a Torey James layup to make it a 23-21 game in favor of the Toppers, Blue Mountain went on a 17-8 to close out the half up 40-29. Rodney Wiley Jr. was able to score five straight points in the last 45 seconds to keep the game within reach for the Mariners.

2nd Half:

The Toppers opened up the second half on a 7-2 run to take a 16-point lead that they would not relinquish as they coasted the rest of the way to record their 10th win of the season.

UP NEXT: The Mariners will travel to Thomas University on Saturday, Jan. 14 in hopes of snapping a seven-game losing streak.
