Volleyball Gets Big Sweep Over Warriors

AVON PARK, Fla.- The Coastal Georgia volleyball team (8-13, 4-9) got its biggest win of the season on Wednesday night against Webber International. 

The Mariners entered the match in a must-win situation in order to keep their postseason hopes alive and they stepped up to take down the Warriors (12-12, 6-7) by a score of 3-0.

Coastal and Webber opened up the game with an epic first set as the Mariners had to score 31 points to win it after the Warriors came back down 20-14.

The Mariners executed at every level and made big-time plays when they needed them.

BY THE NUMBERS-
  • Paula Perez Rosales, Raevyn Russell and Sara Hansen recorded double-doubles in the win as Luci Marinella recorded a career-high 22 assists.
  • Perez Rosales led the team with 13 kills while adding 11 digs, Russell went for 11 kills and 11 digs and Hansen recorded 10 assists and a team-high 17 digs.
  • Kira Matthias had another good defensive game, recording 11 digs and adding seven assists.
  • Sydney Martin had one of her better games of the season, going for nine kills while hitting .381 percent and getting in on three blocks.
  • Cassidy Casey also had a great outing, going for seven kills with a .636 hit percentage and assisting on two blocks.
  • Chantiya Johnson added four kills and three blocks of her own to round out the major scorers for the Mariners.
UP NEXT: The Mariners enter a win-and-in situation on Saturday when they host No. 23 St. Thomas in their regular season finale.
