Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Mariners Get Handed First Loss of the Season

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Coastal Georgia men's basketball team (2-1) dropped its first game of the season in a 77-64 loss to William Carey (2-1) on Friday night.

The Mariners weren't able to get their usual production from the three-point line as they went just 2-14 from outside with Salle Wilson hitting both of them.

Despite the loss, there were some bright spots for Coastal Georgia. Brice Langford built off a solid outing against Dalton St. yesterday and turned in 18 points, four rebounds and three blocks as he looks to be in mid-season form.

Wilson also put in 18 points and grabbed five rebounds as he helped the Mariners stay in the game.

William Carey did a good job shutting down the Mariners top two scores as Nick Jiles and Layton Veon combined for 21 points but only attempted two threes.

Jiles and Veon found other ways to contribute, however, as Jiles dished out a team-high six assists and grabbed three steals while Veon snagged a team-high nine rebounds.

AJ Muller and DJ Taylor again played great on-ball defense as Muller added three points while Kaden McArthur and David Felix both dropped in two points of their own to round out the scoring for the Mariners.

UP NEXT: The Mariners will head to Jacksonville, Fla. to take on the University of North Florida, an NCAA D1 opponent on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Jacksonville, Fla.
