No. 18 Mariners Take Both Games Against the Barons Behind Great Pitching

BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The No. 18 Coastal Georgia softball team (5-4, 0-0) defeated Brewton-Parker (3-3, 0-0) in both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon by scores of 7-1 and 10-0 (5 innings).

Game 1:

Hayley Dickerson pitched a gem through all seven innings, allowing just one run and striking out five batters as she picked up win number two on the season. Dickerson's record improved to 2-3 and she has the lowest ERA on the team at 1.91.

At the plate, Aniston JohnsonSarah Thinger and Melani Jones led the way. Johnson went 3-4 including two doubles and two RBIs. Thinger and Jones both had multi-hit games as well with Thinger picking up a triple and a single. 

McCall Maret and Bryce Peacock also recorded hits. Both of their hits led to a run being scored, as Maret got the scoring started in the first inning with a double to bring in Jones. The Mariners went on to win 7-1 and improve their record back up to .500.

Game 2:

It was Bryce Peacock's turn in the circle for game two, and she did not disappoint. The junior pitched all five innings, striking out eight batters and allowing just one walk on her way to a no-hitter. Peacock had a perfect game intact until a walk in the top of the fifth inning took it away. She improves to 2-0 on the year with a 3.00 ERA.

The Mariner's offense came on the long ball in game two. Kayla RowellAniston JohnsonMalarie Peacock and Melani Jones all sent balls over the fence as they backed up Peacock's performance in the circle.

Rowell's homer came in the second inning with Johnson on base to get the scoring started for the Mariners. Coastal Georgia followed that up with a six-run third inning thanks to a two-run shot by Johnson and a three-run shot by M. Peacock. Jones decided to get in on the fun as well, hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to eventually end the game early. 

UP NEXT: The Mariners will play Columbia International University on the road on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
