COLUMBIA, S.C.- The No. 18 Coastal Georgia softball team (6-4, 0-0) swept Columbia International (6-8, 1-1) by scores of 4-0 and 9-1 (five innings).
The Mariners have now won four straight games, allowing just two runs over that stretch.
GAME 1:
- Senior Hayley Dickerson had another exceptional outing, picking up her third win of the season after pitching seven innings, striking out six batters and allowing just three hits and no runs.
- Sarah Thinger, MacKenzie Kagee and McCall Maret all finished the game with two hits while Anna Feil was the main catalyst on offense hitting a two-run triple in the top of the sixth inning to give the Mariners a 3-0 lead.
- Thinger recorded the fourth and final run later that inning on a sacrifice fly. Aniston Johnson drove in the other run the inning before on an infield single which allowed Melani Jones to cross the plate.
GAME 2:
- Bryce Peacock had her turn in the circle again, and like Dickerson, pitched great. Through four innings she struck out six batters and allowed four hits and no runs. Reagan Thomas closed out the game in the fifth inning to secure the Mariners sixth win of the season.
- A six-run second inning propelled Coastal Georgia to the victory. Maret drove in Jones in the first inning to get the scoring started and then drove in Jones again in the second inning which put the Mariners up 7-0.
- In between Maret's RBIs, freshman Zoe Johnston-Hadaway hit the first inside-the-park home run of the season, which drove in three runs. That is already the 11th home run hit by Mike Minick's squad this season.
- Thinger recorded another two-hit, one RBI game while Jones and Johnson drove in the other two Mariner runs.
