BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The No. 18 Coastal Georgia softball wasted time getting into mid-season form against Savannah State University in Wednesday's game one of the doubleheader.
The Mariners (2-0) defeated the Tigers (0-2) 15-1 in the first game and 12-0 in the second. Both games were ended at five innings.
Head Coach Mike Minick has now won six-straight opening day series, all of which have been doubleheaders.
Newcomers Aniston Johnson and Anna Feil impressed in their Mariners debut. Johnson went a combined 3-6 with two home runs and seven RBIs while Feil recorded a hit in her lone at-bat and struck out two of the four batters she faced.
Game 1:
The Mariners bats came off the bus hot, raking in five runs in the first inning thanks to a three-run blast by first baseman MacKenzie Kagee that followed back-to-back RBIs by Kayla Rowell and Aniston Johnson.
Coastal Georgia tacked on another four runs in the second inning before being held to just one over the third and fourth. The Mariners then closed out the game in the fifth inning thanks to Johnson's grand slam.
Sarah Thinger and Bryce Peacock went 2-2 in the game while Rylee Maxwell, Madison Pickett and Denise Dees recorded their first collegiate hits.
Hayley Dickerson notched career win number 38 after pitching a three-inning gem in which she struck out five batters while only allowing one hit. Reagan Thomas and Elizabeth McGovern finished off the final two innings, allowing just one run, which came in the fifth inning.

Anna Feil and Thomas closed out the second game, allowing just two hits and striking out four batters
On top of a dominant performance pitching, Peacock again went 2-2 at the plate, starting off the season as perfectly as one can.

Senior third baseman McCall Maret went 3-4, recording the only three-hit performance of the day.
