BEAUFORT, S.C.- The No. 18 Coastal Georgia softball team (9-4, 0-0) defeated USCB (5-7, 0-0) in both games on Wednesday evening by scores of 2-1 and 3-1.
The Mariners again got strong performances from their starting pitchers, as both
Hayley Dickerson and
Bryce Peacock went seven innings and allowed just one run.
GAME 1:
- Hayley Dickerson pitched another solid game for the Mariners as she improved to 4-3 on year after striking out four batters and allowing just one run.
- Malarie Peacock got the Mariners in the scoring column early with a solo shot to left field in the third inning.
- Aniston Johnson drove in what would be the deciding run in the top of the sixth inning, scoring Rylee Maxwell who stole second after being put in as a pinch runner.
- Dickerson was able to close down the Sand Sharks in the bottom of the seventh after they loaded the bases with just one out as she forced the final two batters to fly out to left field.
GAME 2:
- Bryce Peacock followed up Dickerson's performance in the circle with a seven inning, four strikeout performance of her own while also giving up just one run.
- On the offensive side, the top of the lineup did the job for Coastal Georgia. Sarah Thinger, Melani Jones and McCall Maret combined for six hits and all three of the team's RBIs.
UP NEXT: The Mariners will host Reinhardt University on Wednesday, Mar. 8 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Brunswick High field.
