No. 25 Mariners Win Series with Big Seventh Inning

THOMASVILLE, Ga.- The No. 25 Coastal Georgia softball team (13-5, 2-1) secured the series win over Thomas University (8-10, 1-2) after splitting Saturday's games.

The Mariners won 5-0 thanks to a big seventh inning spearheaded by Aniston Johnson's two-run single which gave the Mariners a 3-0 lead after a Nighthawk error allowed the Mariners to get the first run of the game.

Hayley Dickerson, fresh off the heels of setting the new school record for career strikeouts pitched another complete game gem. The senior only threw 61 pitches in her outing, allowing her defense to do the work and they backed her up making zero errors.

Sarah Thinger recorded three hits in her four at-bats including a big double in the seventh inning to get things going.

Thomas recorded six hits, but none of them for extra bases. Dickson also did a good job of throwing strikes to a disciplined Nighthawks team, as she awarded no free passes, making Thomas work for everything. When Thomas did get on base, the Mariners defense did a good job of not allowing runs to get into scoring position, making things easier for Dickerson in the circle.

The Mariners put themselves in a good position with their opening Sun Conference series and will look to carry that momentum into the week as they play Avila University in a doubleheader at home on March 17 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
