No. 20 Mariners Defeat No. 8 Gyrenes for Second Top-10 Win in Program History

Box Score BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The No. 20 Coastal Georgia men's tennis team (7-1, 2-0) defeated No. 8 Ave Maria (4-3, 0-1) by a score of 4-3 in a thrilling win at the Marta. B. Torrey Tennis Complex.

The Mariners clinched the doubles point as Lucas Landaluce and Aymeric Bruno remain undefeated as partners, taking the win 7-5 at line No. 1. Ramon Martinez Fererr and Adrien Guye won the first doubles match, 6-4, at court No. 3.

Felix Arroyo Viglino clinched the match for the Mariners with a 6-4, 6-4 win at court No. 3.

This is the just the second time in program history the Mariners have defeated a team in the top 10 and the first since the 2014 season.

Adrien Guye and Santiago Speranza remain undefeated in singles play after winning on courts No. 5 and 6.

Head Coach Zack Rogers praised his guys competitive nature as they recorded one of the best wins in Coastal Georgia tennis history.

"Super proud of how the guys competed today," Rogers said. "We talked before the match about how we were gonna have to fight for every point and that became apparent early on in doubles. Huge win for Lucas (Landaluce) and Aymeric (Bruno) at line No. 1 against the 16th ranked doubles team in the country. In singles, we really benefited from having Felix (Arroyo Viglino) back in the line up after missing the last five matches with an injury. Santiago (Speranza) and Adrien (Guye) continue to be the anchors in the line up but today was a total team effort," Rogers.

"That's the first top 10 win we've gotten in my time at Coastal and it felt really good," Rogers continued.

UP NEXT: The Mariners will head to West Palm Beach, Fla. to take No. 1 Keiser University on Friday, Mar. 31.
