Dickerson Pitches Shutout as Thinger's Homer Seals Sweep

BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The No. 24 Coastal Georgia softball team (20-5, 5-1) completed its sweep over Warner University (8-19, 1-8) with a 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon thanks to Sarah Thinger's first career home run.

Hayley Dickerson picked up her 11th win of the season, which leads the Sun Conference and now gives her 48 career wins to tie Paige Alt's school record.

This was also Dickerson's conference-leading fourth shutout of the season, boasting a stellar 0.85 ERA.

Melani Jones also tied an Alt record with her single to left field in the fifth inning. Jones is now tied for the school record for career hits with 164.

How It Happened:
  • Like yesterday's game two, this game was a pitching duel throughout.
  • Dickerson finished with six strikeouts and allowed just four hits without walking anyone.
  • Allie Hughes for the Royals pitched well too, giving up just five hits. Fortunately for the Mariners one of those five hits was a home run.
  • Thinger's home run was just the cherry on top in terms of her performance today. She was the only player on either team to record two hits and she made several exceptional plays at second base including ranging all the way from second to just inside the foul line to catch what would have been a hit for Warner.
  • Thinger bumped her average up to .493 on the season, which leads the team is first in the Sun Conference (among players who have played more than two games).
UP NEXT: The Mariners continue their home stand against Webber International beginning with a doubleheader on Tuesday, Mar. 28 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and then the series finale on Wednesday, Mar. 29 at 2 p.m. all at the Brunswick High Softball Field.
