No. 21 Coastal Georgia Drops Doubleheader to No. 11 Knights

BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The No. 21 Coastal Georgia softball team (31-10, 15-3) dropped both games of its doubleheader against No. 11 Middle Georgia State (33-9, 17-5) in the Mariners last non-conference games of the season on Tuesday evening.

The Knights took game one handedly thanks to a nine-run sixth inning which was started by a three-run triple and avalanched into six more runs off base-hits. The Mariner's scrapped across one run in the bottom of the sixth, but the game would end in a run-rule with Middle Georgia State taking it 12-1.

The Mariners fared better in game two as they went up 2-0 thanks to an RBI single by Julianna Bellflower in the third and a solo home run by McCall Maret in the fourth.

The Knights answered back with a two-run double in the top of the fifth to tie the game and Bryce Peacock quickly broke that tie with a solo homer to center field, her fifth of the year, to regain the lead for the Mariners at 3-2.

In the sixth inning, the Mariners ran into to some trouble after Peacock walked the first two batters with no outs. However, she rebounded striking out the third batter of the inning and then got the final two Knights to fly out.

Coastal Georgia needed just three more outs to secure its 32nd win of the season, but the Knights had other plans as they tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the seventh and went on to win the game after putting up three runs in the top of the eighth.

Bellflower and B. Peacock were bright spots today for the Mariners. Bellflower finished the day 3-6 at the plate with an RBI and drew a walk while playing great defense at first base. B. Peacock went 2-4 on the day with two RBI's, including that home run, while pitching seven solid innings for the Mariners in game two.

UP NEXT: The Mariners will be back in action on Friday, April 21-22 as they travel to Ave Maria to take on the Gyrenes in a Sun Conference matchup.
