No. 21 Mariners Honor Seniors, Crowned Sun Conference Regular Season Champions

BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The No. 21 Coastal Georgia softball team (37-10, 21-3) was crowned the Sun Conference Regular Season Champions after sweeping Keiser (23-21, 12-12) with an 8-1 victory on Saturday morning.

The Mariners also celebrated seniors Julianna Bellflower, Hayley Dickerson, Melani Jones, McCall Maret, Malarie Peacock and Kayla Rowell as it was their last time stepping on their home field with the word 'Mariners' on their jersey.

Coastal Georgia had a great crowd for the game, and the fans would not be disappointed by the results.

Hayley Dickerson picked up her 19th win of the season, which ties the school record for single-season wins and Sarah Thinger picked up hit No. 66 which breaks the single-season hit record that she broke last year.

Dickerson finished with eight strikeouts and threw just 88 pitches after her 138-pitch outing in yesterday's game one.

The Mariners jumped to an early 4-0 lead thanks to Bryce Peacock, Aniston Johnson, MacKenzie Kagee and Thinger all recording RBI's in the first two innings.

Thinger accounted for three of those runs, scoring two and driving in another.

The Seahawks were able to get a run across in the top of the fourth. Keiser was in a position to add more runs, but after a great throw from M. Peacock in right field that turned what looked like an RBI single in a "routine" out, Dickerson left the Seahawks stranded on second and third.

Johnson added to Coastal Georgia's lead with a two-run homer that scored Melani Jones in the bottom of the fifth. Jones would pay it forward the next inning, driving in Rori Rhodes with an RBI single and eventually come around to score off a Maret at-bat.

UP NEXT: The Mariners are set to play at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 4th against the winner of Warner v Keiser in Clearwater, Fla.
