BRUNSWICK, Ga. - After a come from behind win over the Florida College Falcons on Monday night, the College of Coastal Georgia men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Tifton to take on the Stallions of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
The Mariners (4-4, 2-1 SUN) got double digit points from five different players in the Monday night victory, led by Salle Wilson with 17 points, bringing his season average back up to 15.8 points per game. The senior from Baton Rouge, La. is well on his way to averaging more points than he did a season ago, and could find himself in the record book by seasons end.
His teammate, Kaden McArthur, is also working on one of the best seasons in school history as the sophomore from Suwanee is currently averaging 18.5 points per game which would rank fifth in school history for a single season if the season were to end today. If McArthur could get his numbers up above 20 points per game, he would be just the fourth Mariner in school history to average 20+ points in a single season. McArthur is also shooting just over 40 percent from three for the season, which would tie his mark from a season ago and tie for third in school history.
CCGA is also getting great minutes and numbers from the likes of Valdy Zephir, Thaddeus Burns, and Jeremiah Camara, who all three have started at least five games so far this season for head coach Jesse Watkins.
The Stallions (3-4, 1-1 SSAC) come in on a three game losing streak, having not won since November 16 at Point University which secured their first conference win as an NAIA school. Last time out, it was a 91-56 loss to Paine College in Augusta. The Stallions come in scoring just 74 points per game while giving up 77 points in return to their opponents. The shooting splits for the Stallions are some of the best in the country, as they shoot 46 percent from the field and 39 percent from three, but they allow their opponents to shoot just as good, cancelling out the stellar offense. TJ Smith leads the Stallions offense with 13.6 points per game while Tommie Hall follows behind with 10.6 of his own.
Tip off is set for 4:00 p.m.
