In the second doubleheader of the season, Coastal Georgia softball continued its momentum against Edward Waters University. The Mariners now (4-0) took down the Tigers (2-2) in their doubleheader, picking up their second sweep of the season. With their two wins over Edward Waters, Coastal Georgia moves to 19-1 in the all-time head-to-head match up.
Game 1: Opening up the day, the Mariners took advantage with a 1 run lead in the first inning against the Tigers on an RBI double from
Bryce Peacock. The Mariners added 2 more runs in the bottom of the 4th to open up a 3-0 lead.
Alyssa Haggerty reached first base on an error at first base which also allowed for the 2 runs to come in. The Tigers were held scoreless the entire game giving the Mariners their first shutout of the season.
Bryce Peacock opened in the circle for the Mariners. Pitching her first shutout of the season, she only allowed 1 hit while putting up 4 strikeouts and giving up 5 walks. She improves to 2-0 in the circle after this home opening weekend.
Game 2: The Mariners and Tigers took the field for their second match up of the doubleheader. Coastal Georgia led off the game putting up atleast 1 run in the first inning for the 4th straight game this season. 2 runs were secured, both via RBI singles from
Bryce Peacock and
Mackenzie Southerland respectfully. In the 2nd inning the Mariners added 2 more runs via errors.
Sarah Thinger reached first on an error by the Tigers pitcher on a bunt.Â
Rylee Mills then reached first on an error by second base which allowed the 2 runs of the inning to come. In the 6th inning, the Mariners tacked on another run via a single from M. Coleman who then advanced to second on an error by right field which also allowed the 6th Mariners run to come. The Tigers were held scoreless most of the game until the top of the 7th where the scored from an RBI popup to center field.
Elizabeth McGovern took the circle for her second appearance of the season. She picked up her second win moving her to 2-0. She gave up 1 run on 3 hits. McGovern also contributed 4 strikeouts while committing only 1 error.
