Mariners Fall to Georgia Southern in Road Contest

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Coastal Georgia Mariners faced a tough challenge on Thursday night, falling to Georgia Southern 100-58 at the Hill Convocation Center in a non-conference road game.

The Mariners came out with energy and confidence. Coastal Georgia executed well on both ends of the floor in the opening minutes, trading baskets and building momentum. That strong start culminated in the Mariners holding a 12-11 lead at the first media timeout, silencing the home crowd and proving they could compete with a quality opponent on the road.

However, Georgia Southern (7-5) found their rhythm shortly after and began to assert themselves. The Eagles used their depth and size advantage to go on a decisive run, pulling away from the Mariners over the remainder of the first half. By the time the halftime buzzer sounded, Georgia Southern had built a commanding 49-27 lead. The second half saw the Eagles continue to pour it on, outscoring the Mariners 51-31 as they pulled away for the final margin.

Senior Aamir Mack provided a bright spot for Coastal Georgia with an outstanding individual performance. Mack led the Mariners with 12 points while shooting an impressive 5-of-6 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. His efficient scoring and veteran presence demonstrated the kind of leadership that will be crucial for the team moving forward.

The Mariners finished the game shooting 35 percent from the field and 27 percent from three-point range against strong defensive pressure from Georgia Southern, who shot 52 percent overall and 39 percent from beyond the arc.

Georgia Southern's depth also played a major role, as their bench players maintained the same level of intensity and execution as their starters. Dwayne Williams Jr. led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting, showcasing the balanced scoring attack that makes Georgia Southern a formidable opponent.

The Mariners will look to bounce back as they hit the road again, traveling to face Brewton-Parker in their next contest.
