BRUNSWICK, Ga. - For the second game in a row, the College of Coastal Georgia men's basketball team suffered one of their worst losses in recent memory, dropping their Monday night conference matchup with the Keiser Seahawks by a final of 100-49.
Through the first four minutes of the first half, all things looked great for the Mariners (7-15, 4-9 SUN) as they took an 11-6 lead on the shoulders of Thaddeus Burns, Preston Crisp, and D'ontaye Strawter. The success was short lived, however, as over the final 16 minutes of the first half, Keiser dominated in every facet of the game, outscoring the Mariners 42-12 over that span and held the Mariners to 6-21 shooting and 0-6 shooting from three during the stretch. The big three for Keiser of Sirmans, Payne, and Miskiewicz helped the Seahawks (20-4, 10-2 SUN) grow their lead out to 48-25 at the half. Burns led the Mariners with eight points followed by five from Crisp.
It was another rough second half for the Mariners as Keiser took full control right out of the gates and outscored the Mariners 52-24 in the final 20 minutes to take the game and hand the Mariners one of their worst loses in school history by a final of 100-49.
Burns finished as the leading scorer with 11 points on 5-9 shooting and 1-3 shooting from deep. CCGA shot just 34 percent from the field and 14 percent from three as Keiser lit the floor up at 57 percent shooting and 40 percent shooting from three.
After back to back embarrassing loses, the Mariners need to regroup as they welcome in the Florida Memorial Lions on Wednesday. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. from Coffin Gym.
