Women's Basketball Season Ends With Loss to Seahawks

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Needing a win to help their case for the conference tournament, the College of Coastal Georgia women's basketball team dropped their regular season finale to the Keiser Seahawks by a final of 67-59 in West Palm Beach.

Knowing their postseason lives hung in the balance, the Mariners (12-12, 5-11 SUN) jumped all over the Seahawks (19-8, 12-4 SUN), opening the game on an 11-2 run fueled by Peyton Shafer, Tyler Butler, and Alli Stone, giving CCGA early life. CCGA was able to hold the lead for the remainder of the quarter, but Keiser made their way back into the game and only trailed by one at the quarter break 15-14.

Keiser took the lead 21-20 with seven minutes left in the second quarter, going on a 12-2 run over the first six minutes of the second quarter to take an eight point lead. KU built their lead up by as much as nine in the quarter, but CCGA scored just 15 points in the quarter once again as Keiser took a 38-30 lead into halftime.

Keiser kept the pressure on in the third quarter, but CCGA did not go down quietly after trailing for the majority of the second half, even going on an 8-2 run to end the quarter as the Mariners trailed by just three, 52-49, going into the fourth and final quarter.

WIth 4:12 left in the game, two free throws from Shafer cut the lead down to just three, but CCGA could not hold as Keiser built up their lead again. A Jasmin Worsley layup once again cut the lead to three, but it was not to be as Keiser ended the game on a 4-0 run over the last 40 seconds of the game to take home the 67-59 victory in the season finale.

Shafer finished with a team leading 12 points on 5-8 shooting from the field, while Butler, Morgon Webb, and Gardner all finished under 10 points in their final game in a CCGA uniform. CCGA shot just 38 percent from the field and 33 percent from three.

Even with the Warner loss, the Mariners did not hold the tiebreaker over the Royals and will miss the Sun Conference Tournament. CCGA ends their season with a 12-12 overall record and a 5-11 record in conference play.
