BRUNSWICK, Ga. - For the second straight time on their home field, the College of Coastal Georgia softball team was swept in a Sun Conference series, this time by the Keiser Seahawks as they fell by a final of 6-1 on Saturday in game three of the series.
The Seahawks (28-11, 11-4 SUN) dominated not just game three but the entire series as they outhit the Mariners (22-11, 5-7 SUN) 31 to 22 and outscored CCGA 19-11 en route to their second conference sweep of the season.
Keiser once again started the game off blazing hot, striking for four runs over the first two innings to take a commanding 4-0 lead right out of the gate.
There was not much CCGA could do offensively as they didnt get their first hit until the bottom of the third inning on a bunt single from Alyssa Haggerty. Three of the Mariners hits came in the same inning, the bottom of the sixth, leading to their one and only run of the afternoon. Emma Jones started the inning with a single, moving to third on a double from Rily Andrews and scoring on a single from Rylie Smith.
Keiser added two more runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 6-1, and the Mariners went down in order in the bottom half as they dropped game three.
Smith finished 2-3 from the plate and also finished with the lone RBI of the afternoon.
The Mariners will turn the page as the calendar flips to April as they travel to Miami Gardens to take on Florida Memorial next weekend for a three game series.
