Vonore, Tn. -- The College of Coastal Georgia men's golf team finished tied for sixth in a 12-team field at the Bojangles Invitational, hosted by Tennessee Wesleyan, at the Links at Kahite in eastern Tennessee. The tournament marks the end of the fall schedule for the Mariners, who were recently ranked 7th nationally in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek NAIA Coaches' Poll.
Coastal Georgia ended round one at +22 collectively, improving to +11 in rounds two and three, at the par-72, 7,170-yard course.
"We got off to a rough start, the weather turned cold on us, it was windy. I think that kind of threw us off, but then we responded in the second round, played much better, we got within third or fourth and then kind of faltered," explained Coastal Georgia men's golf coach
Mike Cook, a two-time national champion and member of the NAIA Hall of Fame. "We were close."
Senior
Antonio Juarbe was the top individual performer for the Mariners, finishing tied for 11th at +7 overall. After an opening round +6, Juarbe rallied for even-par and +1 on rounds two and three. He, consistent throughout after settling in, was one of just four golfers at the entire event to finish the last two rounds at +1 or better. Freshman
Cane Carver also earned a top 25 ranking individually. Following a +6 opening round, he closed at +3 for rounds two and three.
"Antonio had some good moments, played well after a rocky start, and responded," Cook added.
Sophomore
Gates Glanton, recently named the week three Sun Belt Men's Golfer of the Week for Coastal Georgia, finished tied for 26th at +13. Junior
Jake Ackerman ranked tied for 30th at +14.
The Mariners will next resume competition in the spring of 2027.
