Gates Glanton Named Sun Conference Men's Golfer of the Week

Tampa, Fl. -- College of Coastal Georgia sophomore Gates Glanton has been named the week three Sun Conference Men's Golfer of the Week. The Fortson-native had a career-best performance at the Invite at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor, Florida, finishing fourth overall individually with a cumulative even-par score at the three-round tournament.

Glanton's round two effort tied for the top single-round score at the event as he compiled a 4-under par 67. Rounds one and three, for Glanton, both featured plus-2 scores of 73. On his sixth hole of the tournament, Glanton, among other highlights, eagled a 452-yard par four. Notably, he was at ever-par or better in 19 of his last 23 holes. Glanton was one of just four golfers at the tournament to finish even-par or better.

"Gates got a lot of good experience last season, he played in the national championship tournament as a freshman, had a good summer playing amateur golf," CCGA head coach Mike Cook, a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame, acknowledged. "He's really improving fast, gaining a lot of experience, and we need that out of him. He is a big, strong kid, loves competition and he is a huge asset for us right now. I feel like he has a good shot at making All-American this year if he keeps playing like this."

The highlight performance from Glanton helped Coastal Georgia, now up the 8th in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek NAIA Coaches' Poll, finish third in the team standings at the 20-team Invite at Innisbrook, an event which featured eleven nationally-ranked programs.

Next, Glanton and the Mariners will complete their fall schedule at the Links at Kahiti on October 17th-18th in Vonore, Tennessee.
