Senior standout Artur Pons Medina of the Coastal Georgia Mariners men's tennis has been named the NAIA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Tuesday. The honor comes after an outstanding week in which the senior from Valencia went undefeated while leading the Mariners to a series of impressive team victories.
Pons Medina played a key role in Coastal Georgia's strong performances against Tiffin University, Marian University, and Spring Arbor University, finishing the week with a perfect 4–0 combined record in singles and doubles competition.
The week began with a solid performance against Tiffin, where Pons Medina secured a 3–1 victory at the No. 1 singles position. He also contributed in doubles play, teaming up to earn a 6–2 win at the top doubles spot, helping set the tone for the Mariners early in the week.
Pons Medina followed that performance with one of the most dominant wins of the week in a matchup against nationally ranked Marian University. Competing at the No. 1 singles position, he delivered a commanding 6–0, 6–0 victory, showcasing his consistency and control from the baseline. He also added a 6–3 win in doubles, helping Coastal Georgia secure an impressive 4–0 victory over the 20th-ranked Knights.
He capped off the week with another strong performance against Spring Arbor University. Facing Aziz Madatov at the No. 1 singles spot, Pons Medina battled back for a come-from-behind win, demonstrating resilience and leadership for the Mariners. In doubles play, he partnered with fellow Mariner Salvador Pons Medina to deliver a dominant 6–0 victory over the duo of Jaume Riera Galindo and Daniel Rodriguez Fortes.
Thanks in large part to Pons Medina's efforts, the Mariners improved to 5–1 overall on the season and continue to build momentum early in the spring schedule.
