Roderick Wilson will be an assistant coach for the Coastal Georgia men’s basketball team for the first time this coming season.
Wilson spent last season at Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Fla., and has coached at other places in the North Florida area since getting into coaching in 2010 after finishing his playing career.
Last year, Wilson helped coach Trinity to a 24-6 record and a regular-season region championship. The team lost in the region tournament championship game. Trinity competes in the National Christian College Athletic Association.
Previously, he was an assistant at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville and also coached with the Jacksonville Rockets AAU organization and the Reach International Academy.
He has worked with several players who went on to future collegiate success such as Patric Young, now in the NBA after starring for the University of Florida the past four years.
Wilson played high school basketball at York High in York, Pa., where he graduated in 2004. He was a second-team all-conference selection as a player.
He went on to play in college at Wallace (Ala.) Community College and made the all-conference team both years there. He transferred to Belhaven (Miss.) for his junior season before finishing his college career at Edward Waters.
He has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ashford University.
Wilson played one year professionally in Italy before an injury ended his career.
He is married to wife Tami. The couple has two children – daughters Ahlaura (2) and Adaysia, who was born July 30.
