Prior to Coastal Georgia: Attended Ohio University and Cape Fear Community College...At Ohio University he played in 14 games...He totaled 11 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and one steal...At Cape Fear, James played in 27 games averaging 18.3 points per game...Shot 45.2 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from behind the arc, and 76.3 percent from the field...Averaged 5.1 rebounds per game and 1.4 assists per game.

High School: Averaged 21.3 points, seven rebounds, and five assists per game at Hickory High School under head coach Andy Poplin as a senior in 2017-18, earning both all-conference and all-district honors for his efforts ... Was invited to compete in the North Carolina East-West All-Star Game ... Competed on the AAU circuit for PSB Elite under head coach Sim Frazier.
