James Frey has been a member of the Coastal Georgia men's basketball staff for the last 18 years, serving as a recruiter and assistant coach.
Frey joined the Mariners staff as a recruiter in June 1992 and served the program in that capacity exclusively until July 1995, when he was asked by longtime Coastal Georgia head coach Gerald Cox to become a bench coach with the Mariners. While he continued to recruit the whole time, Frey has been the recruiting coordinator for the Mariners for the last 13 years.
During his time with the Mariners, the team won three regular-season championships in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association and one tournament championship before leaving the league following the 2010-11 season to start competing as a four-year program in the NAIA.
Frey is responsible for many facets of the basketball program including scheduling, purchasing, overseeing individual player workouts, scouting opponents and preparing scouting reports, organizing and running summer youth and high school team camps and monitoring the academic progress of Coastal Georgia players.
In addition to working with the Coastal Georgia men's team, Frey is also the assistant coach for the Mariners women's team which played its first season in 2011-12.
Frey also teaches seventh-grade English and ninth-grade Spanish at Emmanuel Christian School in Brunswick.
A graduate of Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Frey earned his bachelor's degree in sports and fitness management from Troy University. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University.
