Morrow, Ga. - The College of Coastal men's basketball team dropped a 94-65 decision Wednesday night here at Clayton State University.
The Mariners fell behind by double-digit points early on and never really mounted a threat to Clayton State. They trailed 41-25 at halftime and were outscored 53-40 in the second half.
The loss was the fifth in a row for the Mariners (3-18). Clayton improved to 13-6 with the victory. The loss was the sixth for the Mariners against a team from the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference in as many games this season. The Mariners also lost to Armstrong Atlantic, Augusta State, Lander University, Georgia Southwestern and Francis Marion from the PBC this year.
The game also marked the fourth time this season the Mariners have allowed more than 90 points in a game.
Marcus Morrison led the Mariners in defeat with 23 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth straight double-double game. Morrison finished the game 10-of-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from the foul line. Reggie Burke scored 11 points for the Mariners and was the only other Coastal Georgia player to score in double figures.
Clayton saw 10 of its 11 players who played in the game get in the scorebook with four players scoring in double figures. The quartet was led by Anthony Salter who led the victory with 17 points.
Coastal Georgia will return to the Atlanta area Monday night when it visits Southern Poly in Marietta. The Hornets defeated the Mariners 89-77 in their Dec. 17 meeting in Brunswick. Southern Poly was ranked No. 13 in the NAIA poll at that point and has sinced climbed to No. 3 in the national poll.
