Cochran, Ga. – The College of Coastal Georgia men's basketball team saw its 2014-15 season come to an end Saturday with a 92-81 loss at Middle Georgia State.
Coastal Georgia led the Southern States Athletic Conference game 45-39 at halftime after a strong finish to the first half when the Mariners scored eight of the final 10 points after the sixth deadlock of the opening period at 37-37 with just over four minutes to go before halftime.
However, the Mariners (4-25 overall, 2-16 league) were outscored 53-36 after intermission by the Knights (12-17, 7-11).
With the score tied 50-50 almost five minutes into the second half, the Knights would go on a 13-2 run in less than three minutes to take a double-digit advantage at 63-52.
Middle Georgia would go in front by as much as 15 twice before the clock reached the final 10 minutes. The Mariners did battle back to within 74-71 when Hunter DeRuiter connected on a three-point attempt with seven minutes to go, but the Knights ran away again to complete the win.
For the game, Reggie Burke led all scorers as he finished with 26 points in the last game of his outstanding four-year career with the Mariners. Burke was 8-for-15 from the field including 5-for-8 from the three-point arc. He also hit five of seven foul shots. Burke added four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Also playing his final game with the Mariners, Andrew Reid tallied 20 points and led the team with six rebounds.
Middle Georgia had four players bust the 20-point mark, getting 24 points from both David Bivins and Ryan Wilkins and also 21 from Seth Coleman. Brandon Ingleton led the home team with 11 rebounds while also tossing in nine points.
