Mason McMurray Drops 16 as Mariners Fall to the Knights

Box Score

COCHRAN, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia men's basketball team (1-2(0-0)) fell to Middle Georgia State University (2-1) by a score of 69-57 on Tuesday night.

Senior Mason McMurray led the way for the Mariners, dropping 16 points and 15 rebounds to record his second double-double of the season. Guard Nick Jiles was right behind him and finished with 15 points. Anthony Duncan was also in double figures recording 10 points and led the team with two blocks.

Guards Kenny Brown and Rodney Wiley Jr. combined for 13 points to round out the rest of the Mariner's scoring.

The Knights were led by Jayce Moore, who finished with a game-high 17 points. Brice Martin, Maliek Sadler and N'Kyzie Hawkins also finished in double figures for the Knights.

The Mariners could not keep up with the Knight's fresh legs. Head Coach Jesse Watkins is using a six-man rotation, due to a thin roster, with each player playing over 20 minutes. Middle Georgia on the other hand was able to rotate between nine players, with only one player going over 23 minutes.

How It Happened:

FIRST HALF:

The first half was neck and neck the whole way. The biggest lead of the half was four by the Knights. As a whole, the Mariners were streaky most of the night. Although they were only down 30-29 at the break, Coastal Georgia ended the half scoring only three points in the last five minutes. The Knights were no better from the field shooting just 30 percent, but thanks to 10 offensive rebounds they were able to stay in the game.

SECOND HALF:

Coastal Georgia got off to a fast start, jumping out a 39-32 lead in the first three minutes thanks to a pair of threes by Nick Jiles and back-to-back layups by Rodney Wiley Jr. and Anthony Duncan. The Mariners continued to pour it on and were up 47-38 at the 14-minute mark after a pair of Kenny Brown triples. But a 15-0 run by the Knights over the next six minutes of play would put the Mariners in a 53-47 deficit they could not shoot their way out of. The Knights would go on to win by 12 and improve to 2-1 on the season.

UP NEXT:

The Mariners will travel to Atlanta, Ga. for an exhibition against Division I Georgia State University on Monday, Nov. 7 before playing their home opener on Nov. 9 against Middle Georgia State.
