Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia women's basketball team (1-7, 0-2) fell to Brewton-Parker (7-2, 1-1) 75-64 Tuesday afternoon.
The Mariners were led by seniors Sonia Forney and Joyce Jordan who finished with 18 and 17 points respectively.
Forney also added 17 rebounds to set a new career high while Jordan grabbed 12 rebounds which tied her career high. Jordan also finished an impressive 4-7 from the three-point line.
Wings Kelsey Leedle and Nicole Hofmann combined for 20 points, 13 of which came from Leedle to tie her season-high in scoring.
Azaria Varnado made her return after being out with injury and recorded nine points on a very efficient 3-4 shooting.
For the Barons, Sy-Marieona Williams led the way with 16 points off the bench thanks to four three-pointers. Cisley Cooper and Madison Evans pitched in as well scoring 12 points each while Tajahnae Wiggins and Drexelle Ward would combine for 18 points to round out the major scorers for Brewton-Parker.
As a team, the Mariners shot 41 percent from the field and grabbed 49 rebounds while the Barons shot 35 percent from the field and recorded 50 rebounds. The big difference in the game was that Brewton-Parker only turned the ball over eight times to the Mariners' 18 and recorded 36 points in the paint to the Mariners' nine. A big part of the paint-scoring discrepancy was that 20 of the Barons' 50 rebounds were offensive, leading to second-chance points.
