Mariners Drop First Game of SSAC/SUN Challenge

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Coastal Georgia women's basketball team (0-2(0-0)) fell 69-48 to Blue Mountain College (3-0) on Friday, Nov. 5 in the SSAC/SUN Challenge. 

The Mariners were led offensively by senior Sonia Forney who finished with 18 points while also snagging a game-high seven rebounds and three steals. Freshman Gabby Litvak scored 11 thanks to three three-pointers in the first half. Joyce Jordan round out the big scorers for the Mariners as she dropped seven on the Toppers.

The Toppers were led by Charmen Taylor who scored a game-high 25 points thanks to five three-pointers. Rebecca Walter also recorded double-digit points as she dropped in 16. 

Blue Mountain College led the entire game thanks to efficient shooting from outside the arc. The Toppers were 10-22 (43.5 percent) from the three-point line and defended it well on the other end. After Litvak's three three-pointers, the Mariners went 0-8 from downtown and struggled to find their shot as they finished the second half shooting 4-27 from the field.

How It Happened:

1st Quarter: The Toppers jumped on the Mariners early taking an 11-0 lead. They kept their foot on the gas and led 21-3 before the Mariners closed the gap by going on an 11-0 run as the first quarter expired. 

2nd Quarter: The Mariners, led by Gabby Litvak's nine-point quarter, cut the Topper's lead down even further and trailed by just five going into the half. Blue Mountains leading scorer, Charmen Taylor, had 18 of her 25 points at halftime.

3rd Quarter: The Coastal Georgia offense struggled to get it going coming out of the locker room as the Mariners had just six points, allowing Blue Mountain to take a 15-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes. 

4th Quarter: The Mainers weren't able to go on a run as the Toppers closed out the game to take a 69-48 win and improve to 3-0 on the season.
