Box Score BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia men's basketball team (1-3(0-0)) fell to Middle Georgia State University (4-2) 85-68 in the Mariner's home opener on Wednesday night.
The Mariners were led offensively by Mason McMurray who finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds while also dishing out seven assists from the low block. Nick Jiles was behind him with 12 points, all of which came in the second half, and also dished out five assists.
Anthony Duncan and Kenny Brown combined for 20 points while Layton Veon added 13 off the bench for the Mariners.
Anthony Ross, Aaron Daniels and Antonio Muller combined for eight points off the bench as well.
For the Knights, all five of their starters ended with double-digit points. Pierles Brown led the charge with 25 points while Maliek Sadler recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Champ Dawson, Jayce Moore and JJ Richards combined for 38 points while TJ Morgan was the lone man to score off the bench for the Knights with four.
As a team, the Mariners had a hard time getting the ball to go in the rim. They shot just 37.5 percent from the field and 25.7 percent from beyond the arc. On the other hand, Middle Georgia State shot 47.1 percent from the field and hit 52.6 percent of its shots from the three-point line.
Coastal Georgia also turned the ball over 17 times to the Knights 8, making that one of the key differences in the game as well.
The Knights led by double-digits nearly the whole game after jumping out to an early 8-0 lead and stayed hot from the three-point line.

The Mariners will travel to Lakeland, Fla on Nov. 17 to take No. 17 Southeastern in their first Sun Conference game of the season.
