Box Score BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia women's basketball team (5-16, 3-8) fell 72-66 to Southeastern University (11-10, 8-3) on Saturday afternoon.
The Fire ended the Mariners' four-game winning streak while extending their own streak to five games.
The Mariners were led offensively by Joyce Jordan who finished with 18 points. Sonia Forney was right behind her with 14 points and the two seniors both recorded double-doubles grabbing 14 rebounds apiece.
Freshman guard Iesha Rhodin finished in double figures as well dropping in 12 points on 5-6 shooting and dishing out five assists. Fellow freshman Gabby Litvak recorded nine points in just 10 minutes of play, going 3-5 from beyond the arc.
For the Fire, Sun Conference leading scorer Gabby Suarez was held in check recording 10 points on 3-12 shooting. Kiki Britzmann and Emilia Sexton more than carried their share of the scoring load, however, recording 24 points and 22 points, respectively.
As a team, the Mariners and Fire shot similarly from the floor and three-point line. Coastal Georgia outrebounded Southeastern and although the Mariners kept their turnovers low, they still committed five more than the Fire.
How It Happened:
1st Quarter:
- The Mariners led for much of the quarter, as Joyce Jordan established her presence early dropping in eight points.
- On the other end, Gabby Suarez also had a big quarter, scoring five of her 10 points early on.
2nd Quarter:
- Kiki Britzmann established herself in the quarter recording 12 points and helping the Fire jump out to a 31-20 before the Mariners answered to close the gap.
- Gabby Litvak hit two three-pointers in the final minute of the half to cut the Fire lead down to three heading into the break.
3rd Quarter:
- Southeastern opened up the half with a lead, but Iesha Rhodin snagged an offensive rebound and floated one in to tie the game back at 37.
- Emilia Sexton seemed to hit everything and pushed the Fire back out to a five-point lead.
- The Fire rode Sexton's hot hand into the fourth quarter with a 51-45 lead.
4th Quarter:
- The Mariners'Â only lead in the fourth came at the 4:40 mark when a Nicole Hofmann layup put them up 57-56.
- The Fire answered back with five quick points to regain the lead, which they would not relinquish.
- The Mariners got it within two points with 24 seconds left, but Sexton hit two free throws on the other end to put the dagger in.
