Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Coastal Georgia women's basketball team (1-14, 0-7) fell to Warner University (12-6, 5-2) in overtime by a score of 72-65 on Saturday, Jan. 7.
The Mariners were led offensively by Joyce Jordan and Kelsey Leedle who combined for 30 points and knocked down six three-pointers.
Sonia Forney and Gabby Litvak both scored nine points and Iesha Rhodin led the team with three steals and three assists while scoring eight points of her own.
For the Lions, all five starters finished in double figures led by Emani Theodule who recorded a game-high 18 points. Jasmine Edwards recorded a double-double grabbing 11 boards to go along with her 11 points.
As a team, the Mariners shot 40 percent from the field and 52.2 percent from the three-point line while Warner also shot 40 percent from the field but struggled beyond the arc, knocking down threes at a 21.4 percent clip.
The biggest difference in the game was in the turnover department. The Mariners had 20 while the Lions turned the ball over just nine times.
How It Happened:
1st Quarter:
The Mariners and Lions were in a back-and-forth battle all game. Neither team was able to control a lead in the opening quarter as Warner's biggest lead was four and it was quickly erased as the Mariners took a 22-18 lead in the second quarter thanks to a late Iesha Rhodin three.
2nd Quarter:
Kelsey Leedle opened up the quarter by converting an and-one layup and was followed by a Gabby Litvak three-pointer to give the Mariners a 10-point lead. Neither team was able to find the bottom of the net as the Lions scored just eight points and the Mariners 11. Coastal Georgia was still able to take a decent lead going into the break and was up 33-26.
3rd Quarter:
Warner came out of the break on fire and went for 23 points while holding the Mariners to only eight to gain a 49-41 lead heading into the final quarter.
4th Quarter:
The Mariners were able to respond with a 19-point quarter as Joyce Jordan hit the game-tying free throw with 30 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
Overtime:
The Lions opened up overtime with four straight points and rode that lead until the final buzzer sounded.
