Mariners Get First Win of Season Against Knights

BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia women's basketball team (1-1) got its first win of the season on Tuesday after defeating Middle Georgia State 72-58. Morgon Webb shined for the Mariners, -going for 21 points on 7-13 shooting from the field and 5-7 from three. Kelsey Leedle was behind her with 13 points on a nice 3-8 from the field.

The Mariners came out hot, going on a 6-0 run to open up the game and from there did not trail once.

The Knights (0-1) struggled to capitalize on Coastal Georgia's 31 turnovers, shooting just 2-17 from three and 34.5 percent from the field. 

BY THE NUMBERS-
  • The Mariners shot a nice 41.8 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from three while also knocking down 17 of their 22 free throw attempts.
  • Coastal Georgia dominated the boards too, grabbing 49 to the Knights 30. 
  • Five different Mariners had six or more rebounds including Nia Lawrence (9), Andranique Voorhies (8), Webb (8), Leedle (6) and D'Auzhanay Harden (6).
  • Senior Victoria Hickman led the team in assists with four while showing off her flashy passing.
  • Brinyia Rolax recorded nine points and four rebounds to follow up a solid collegiate debut.
  • Jasmine Worsley added eight points while Ja'Khyla Johnson finished with six to round out the major scorers for the Mariners.
UP NEXT: The Mariners will travel to Lake Wales, Fla. to compete in the SUN/SSAC Challenge.
