BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The No. 24 Coastal Georgia softball team (17-5, 2-1) swept Savannah State University (5-12, 5-8) on Wednesday afternoon in a doubleheader by scores of 9-1 and 17-5.

The Mariners improve to 8-0 at home and have now hit 22 home runs this season, which ranks sixth in the NAIA, as Bryce Peacock and McCall Maret had the honor of wearing the home run chain for the first time this season.

Pitchers Anna Feil and Reagan Thomas got the nod to start in the circle for today's games as Feil improved to 3-0, getting credit both wins.

13 different Mariners recorded hits led by B. Peacock who went a perfect 5-5 on the day and Melani Jones who recorded an impressive 5-7 day over the two games.

GAME 1:
  • The Mariners got things cooking early thanks to Bryce Peacock's first home run of the season. Sarah Thinger walked in the at-bat prior and Peacock sent her home jogging to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
  • Coastal Georgia went on to score two more runs in the first inning thanks to Kayla Rowell and Malarie Peacock RBI singles giving the Mariners a 4-0 lead.
  • Feil was in command early. The sophomore struck out four of the first six batters she faced as two more runs scored off the bats of Melani Jones and MacKenzie Kagee to give herself and the team a comfortable 6-0 lead heading into the third inning.
  • The Tigers were able to scrape across a run in the top of the third inning to make it 6-1 before a Julianna Bellflower RBI bumped the Mariners lead back up to six going into the fifth inning.
  • Neither team could get anything going in the fifth inning, but McCall Maret was able to end the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-RBI single to give Coastal Georgia the 9-1 win.
GAME 2:
  • The Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a home run and 2-run double before Reagan Thomas got the next two batters to strikeout.
